Three wonder products to send your skin into summer

Winter is clearly over, thank God! Now we can focus on readying our skin for the summer season. My three favorite products these days to accomplish just this focus on exfoliating and cleaning the skin. I’m gonna tell you how I found these products as well as how to use them, and in days, you too can have a face as soft as a baby’s bottom!

My brother, Oliver Chen, who is a luxury goods analyist for Cowen in NYC and is a fashionsta in his own rite, sent me a lovely goody bag with these little portable facial peels. Called “That’s Incredi-‘peel’!” they are from Bliss, a spa at the W Hotel that I thoroughly enjoy and often leave with great products. Surprisingly, I had never come upon this particular one. I was hesitant to use it, as with any new facial product, since my skin is often sensitive and things can go very wrong if I find myself using the wrong thing- think huge red hives for hours! So I did what any person in today’s day and age would do and started my professional intensive, extremely scientific research on the product. I googled it! I found pretty positive reviews on it, especially from Sephora, most stating that they would use it daily or weekly and cut them in half to save on cost. All had positive results and noticed them right away. So I set out to find out for myself if this would hold true for me. I brought them with me to New York City on a  trip I was taking by myself, in case it produced scary results, I would be alone and not have to frighten my husband or kids!

The first night I used the whole pad. It was certainly very large and I agree with the reviewers that you can cut it in half and double the amount easily. I applied it to a dry clean face, as the instructions indicated. I felt a strong tingling, especially on my forehead. I swiped it down to my neck, because there was so much product. I let it dry until my face was tight and shiny. Then I applied my regular moisturizer and let it do its thing while I slept.

The next morning, indeed it had done its job! I woke and rinsed off my skin. It felt oh so soft–just like a baby’s bottom! Just after one day of usage I had noticed great results. I know the package says to use it daily, but I felt that it seemed like a bit overkill. So I personally would recommend using this every other day, or once a week, depending on how much buildup you have on your face.

This brings me to my next product. Tatcha Cleansing Oil.

I found this product after partaking in a deluxe consulting and makeup application appointment at Sephora. My beauty expert was also a skin expert. A great tip I have for you is that if you ever need to spend more than $100 and have a few hours of time to spare it’s highly worth it to sign up for this free service at Sephora. I had been told by my facialist at DreamSpa in Brookline, that I needed to use a makeup cleanser prior to a facial cleanser at night. This is something that was not on my radar, but I believe this has made a huge difference in the health of my skin since I have been doing it. Prior to this I was using Cetaphil cleanser as my main facial cleanser at night. It is gentle and recommended by dermatologists, but a bit too gentle to take off foundation and makeup from your skin. I found this out after my first use of Tatcha at home. After one splash of water, the sink was full of used foundation. Yuck! If I had not used this cleanser, I know this product would have remained on my skin all night, which can’t be good!

Rub this cleanser in with your fingertips onto dry skin, follow up with this cool wet sponge, and then follow up with cetaphil cleanser on the same sponge. You will see immediate results.

The third and final product that will ready your skin for summer and slough off all of those remaining dead skin cells from the oh too long winter months is Kate Somerville ExfoliKate. Now when I first sampled this product, I assumed it was from Somerville, Mass. But I later found out that the name had nothing to do with the little town outside of Boston, but instead was a brand developed in Los Angeles, California. This green paste is great to have in your repertoire. I use it once a week. I keep it in my shower, because I find that that’s the best and easiest place to use it. I use a small dab on my fingertips and rub the gritty paste into my skin. Let it sit for a good 2-5 minutes then rinse it off. You will feel immediate results!

My bonus tip is to use this little white sponge to exfoliate with your makeup cleanser and your regular cleanser! It’s called Boscia and is found at Sephora. Whole Foods has a generic type too, which is way more affordable.

Hope you like these tips and let me know how your face feels afterwards!
