My Golden Globes 2016 Top and Bottom Picks

  • 1

Tonight fashion ruled the Red Carpet. Though it’s definitely the most fun awards show to attend, fashion-wise it’s often touted as the poor relation to The Oscars. Typically starlets (or their stylists) hold back the best stuff for The Academy Awards, but tonight that did not hold true. On the top of my list is Lady Gaga. The Countess, though she brushed elbows with Leo, BROUGHT it. Her Atelier Versace gown in sculptural velvet wowed me. The neckline was perfect as was the hippy hips. I don’t normally like when a designer adds more onto a woman’s hips, but this design just works. She looked like a black Jessica Rabbit. Sexy old Hollywood. She is coming into her own this year with her fashion, makeup and hair choices. I adored the Neil Lane matching cuffs, which were a perfect addition to an already perfect look.

My second top pick was Olivia Wilde. Post-baby… Yes, jelly anyone? She rocked a wine colored sequin deep plunging neckline by Michael Kors Collection. She was a triple threat too with perfect hair, makeup and dress. Her hair I must comment on. It was tousled perfectly, that messy, but sexy wave that only a truly talented stylist can create. Let’s see if our stylists can re-create this perfection in Boston, Violet, team Mario Russo, thoughts?

Marchesa Marchesa Marchesa. Lily James certainly knew how to bring her A game with an over the shoulder hand draped gown by Weinstein’s bride. The romantic draping of the bust and strategically placed slits created a walking work of art on the starlet’s body. I loved the translucent, almost see-through nature of the fabric–vava-voom! Makeup gets a check as well. Hair… the color was not my favorite.

That brings me to my Ugh list:

Ugh Kirsten Dunst. In Valentino Haute Couture, it looked more like a scene of bondage gone bad. Those tiny little rope like strings crossing her neckline and chest were so not flattering. The dress would have been a million times better had you taken those out. Cover them up with your finger and you will see what I mean.

Boo Brie Larson. In custom Calvin Klein, her gold frock looked more like an 80’s throwback, or something she might have found off the rack in Cache. Yes, she has a hot bod, but no, she did not get any points for her dress.

Aw J. Lo. You barely made this list. But not because of your dress, it’s because of your dress COLOR. Canary is definitely the color of the season, but that version did not do her justice. The dress itself was gorgeous. A Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, perfectly draped, perfectly fitted, gorgeous lines, the asymmetry, the train, everything about it. But that color just does not go with her skin. Sorry J. Lo.
