68th Annual Emmy Awards Ceremony

So my day started like this: img_6169 I put on my favorite black dress and took the requisite selfie in the rose colored mirror in the lobby of the Mondrian Hotel as I waited for my three gal pals who were my dates for the Emmys.img_6173img_6202As we went outside to get into our car, we spotted Laverne from Orange is the New Black trying to get into our SUV. She was gently turned away from our driver and walked over to her tiny sedan. I kinda felt bad for her, because she had legs that went for miles and could have used the extra legroom for sure!

We made our way to the Microsoft Center in downtown LA which was formerly the Staples Center, and in 100 degree heat, stars and well heeled industry folk trotted down the red carpet to celebrate award winners in the television industry.

img_6194 We were sweating to death and didn’t feel like waiting in the huge line to take a pic with the Emmy statue, so this nice lady took ours from behind the statue. It looked the same I’m sure, and we were able to retreat into the air conditioned lobby before we melted. I have no idea how some of the stars were wearing the gowns they were wearing because the red carpet clocked in at about 107 degrees.

img_6201 This was my first time attending this award ceremony. I remember starving at the Oscars when we went for the Social Network, so it was to my delight that 30 minutes into the show, volunteers in white hats started handing out bagged lunches to all 7000 of us! Jimmy Kimmel’s mom was busy making all those peanut butter and jelly sandwiches 😉 She even left a sweet note on our napkin in the bag.

img_6199  We went out for some fresh air and ran into Kit Harrington in the smokers area. He needed a bit of fresh air too because he was very nervous about presenting.

img_6197 The stage was beautiful and it was quite a delight to see so many stars and well dressed guests. Luckily my friend Marsha was able to name all of the stars because she had a knack for recognizing every single one of them. I can’t remember all the names, but we ran into Kirstin Dunst, Heidi Klum, and the girl from Meet the Fockers was apparently sitting right in front of us. She had super short hair and was very beautiful. img_6205

The next morning we woke super early and went to the taping of the E! Fashion Police covering the Emmy Awards. My girlfriends had kindly bid on the auction package to help raise money for the Lenny Zakim Fund, and after a heated bidding war against each other–all in good spirit to raise even more money, Guiliana was sweet enough to offer two packages which enabled the four of us to travel together! Here were are in the “green room” waiting to go into the studio. Only in LA would you have an outdoor green room, because the weather is always so nice. The taping was top secret, so our phones were taken and we weren’t able to capture any of the inside studio shots. Margaret Cho was the most hilarious one of the bunch, as well as Melissa Rivers.

And in my 48 hours in LA I snuck in a quick shopping trip to two of my favorite stores, one for me and one for my kids. This is the booty that I got for my kiddoes! The store is now called Kitross, formerly Kitson. But it’s the same original owner and they have awesome clothes and toys for kids and adults. I highly recommend going there if you are in LA, and ask for Noah, he helped me do all of this damage and has a good eye for cool threads! And yes, that’s a rainbow cheetah sweater you see. My daughter’s favorite animal, next to the peg-a-une of which I found a t-shirt of too both by artist, Lauren Moshi.img_6212
